Bai Hua Rong / Chaga
Chaga is a herb of the Northern world!
Inonotus obliquus is not actually a mushroom at all, but a parasitic fungus that produces a black, woody, growth on birch trees. After 10-15 years of growth it becomes a Chaga, and after 20 is a fully mature herb. It is regarded as a powerful tonic in Chinese Medicine, as well as in other traditional medicines of the North.
Chaga contains very high levels of melanin - the black outer layer of the “conk” - which is considered very healing, especially for the skin. Chaga’s effects are far more than just “skin deep” though, and is very rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other nutrients. There is much research on its immune strengthening, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties as well.
